Along purpose-built walkways and ladders you hear stories from the castle's dramatic history – kings, fires and power struggles. The walk is physical, with stairs, climbing and balancing that raise your pulse, but anyone who can climb stairs can do it – and a touch of nerves about heights simply adds another layer of challenge.

How the rooftop walk works

Meet your guide
We meet at the entrance to the castle tower at Drottning Christinas väg 1A, by the Castle Museum. That is where the tour starts.

Up the tower
Climb the beautiful staircase up to the dome. Expect over 300 steps during the tour.

Gear and practice
In the tower room you put on safety gear, get a briefing and try an indoor practice course.

Out on the roof
Through a hatch in the dome you step outside, then walk and balance across the ridges – clipped in the whole time.

Yes. You need to be at least 140 cm tall and weigh no more than 120 kg for the safety equipment to work.
How physically demanding is it?
It's a physical activity with over 300 steps and sections where you balance and climb ladders – expect your pulse to rise and perhaps a light sweat, even though the walkways, safety equipment and your guide's help make it easier. It still suits almost anyone who can climb stairs, and you can choose the difficulty during the tour. If heights make you a little nervous, that simply adds another layer of challenge, but most people find the equipment and guidance make the tour feel safe and manageable.
