Uppsala castle

The building of Uppsala castle was started around 1549 by King Gustav Vasa, as a part of creating a defense. This has been the scene for both the famous Sture murders, the abdication of Queen Kristina and many other fascinating historical events.

During the first part of the 18th century the castle burned to the ground and was rebuilt in Classical French style, as designed by the architect Carl Hårleman. However, the money ran out in 1762 and so the north wing was never built, even to this day.

There is still much activity in and around the castle throughout the year. And the Royal Commissioner Göran Enander is still happily living in the building as well as having his representative flat here.
